Wagamama review

Last night I went to a Japanese restaurant called Wagamama with some friends, and while I was there I checked out their ability to deal with nut allergy sufferers.
Before I left I called the restaurant to tell them I have an allergy, and the woman was very nice and said it wouldn't be a problem at all. She did add that there are nuts used in the kitchen, but a lot of the meals don't actually contain nuts, I'm used to this as all restaurants seem to cover their backs by saying it!
I then checked the website and found that they had a brilliant filtering system for any dietary requirements, which was really helpful as I like to have an idea of the restaurant before I arrive, and this showed that they are aware and able to deal with such requirements.

When I arrived at the restaurant I spoke to another woman who works there and told her I have an allergy, and she kindly went and fetched me a book that contained a list of food allergies and which dishes were and were not suitable for people who suffer from them. This was really helpful, but I didn't need it because on the main menu there was a key with a symbol which meant that the dish contained nuts, so all the meals which I couldn't eat were already labeled for me. I was really impressed with how careful they are about labeling their food, and how precise it was, rather than just slapping 'may contain' over everything! I also found the staff very understanding, which was comforting.
Another plus is that there are very few dishes which contain nuts, my choice was hardly limited at all which is great! The only problem I did have was with the desserts, not a lot of them were nut free and the majority of the ones which were suitable were ice creams/frozen yogurts, which was slightly annoying. Luckily, because I had checked the menu before I wasn't expecting great things from the desserts and had made my own cakes to take with me. I told the restaurant I was bringing them and they were fine with it, even kept them in the fridge for me!

Over all I am really pleased with the service I got at Wagamama. I found the staff helpful, understanding and aware, plus the food was delicious! I would give them 8/10, because I think their only let down is the desserts. However I still really recommend giving it a try, I always find it one of the best places to eat where I feel confident that their food is safe for me, and the meals are always yummy!

My first post!

This is my first post on my blog about nut allergies and dealing with restaurants and products which are not completely understanding to us nut allergy sufferers. I just wanted to give you a bit of information about myself to start with, make it a bit more personal! My name is Juliette, I'm 17 and have had a severe nut allergy my whole life. I know there is a lot of help out there for allergy suffers, but I wanted to give a different perspective of it as I thought it'd be nice to hear from someone who's experiencing the same situation as you!

I want to start reviewing products, companies and restaurants on a regular basis, giving people alternatives and hopefully helping other sufferers find out more about what's out there for them. There will be a few rants too because, as you'll probably know, it can be seriously frustrating!

Later today I will be going to Wagamama's, which is a Japanese restaurant, with some friends. I have been there before and found they are actually very good with my allergy needs, so today I will just be seeing if they have kept that up and I will write a full review of it tomorrow.

I hope this blog is helpful and informative, please stick with me as I'm still learning! Feel free to ask questions and give suggestions, or just leave a comment about your experiences.
First review out tomorrow :)
